Putnam City Virtual

When Putnam City decided to add virtual instruction as a complement to its educational offerings, we chose to from a partnership with Florida Virtual School (FLVS). FLVS was founded in 1997 as the country's first statewide Internet-based public high school. Today, it is an established leader in developing and providing virtual K-12 education to students not just in Florida, but across the U.S. and around the world.

When you enroll in Putnam City Virtual classes, you'll be a Putnam City student. You'll work with Putnam City counselors and enrollment staff. However, when you sit down at a computer to take classes, at the other end of the connection will be the technology, staff and resources of FLVS. That only makes sense. The experience and success of FLVS is unmatched in the world of virtual instruction.

FLVS has received more awards than any other virtual school. Here are just a few of the many awards FLVS has earned in the last few years:

  • In 2011, FLVS was recognized with a Learning! 100 Award from the Elearning Media Group. The Learning! 100 Award recognizes 60 corporate and 40 public sector organizations for outstanding learning culture, innovation or collaboration.
  • In 2010 The United States Distance Learning Association, the nation's leading distance learning organization, presented FLVS with the 2010 Best Practices in Distance Learning Programming Award. The same year, a FLVS teacher received the first National Online Teacher of the Year Award for K-12 education from the Southern Regional Education Board and the International Association for K-12 Online Learning.
  • In 2009, FLVS won the Software and Information Industry's prestigious CODiE Award for "Best Virtual School Solution for Students." The award acknowledged outstanding vision in creating high-quality online learning solutions for thousands of students across the globe.
  • In 2008, FLVS commitment won the Better Government Competition Award from the Pioneer Institute, an independent, non-partisan, research organization. The program was recognized because of its focus on creating equitable access to instructional excellence for students.
  • In 2007, FLVS was honored with the EdNet Pioneer of the Year Award. The annual EdNet awards program commends businesses and non-profit organizations that have made important contributions to the education industry.
  • In 2006, FLVS won the EdNet Impact Award, given to the organization deemed to have made the most significant impact on education.
  • In 2005, FLVS received the 21st Century Best Practices Award from the United States Distance Learning Association.
  • In 2004, FLVS was one of three national finalists for the EdNET HERO Awards, given to an organization making the most significant positive impact on education through educational technology and telecommunications.
  • In 2003, FLVS was named one of the Web Smart 50 top organizations by BusinessWeek magazine. The same year, FLVS and two of its staff members were recognized by the United States Distance Learning Association for excellence in programming and teaching, and for individual accomplishment in the field of distance learning.
